Work Life Balance

ARE YOU FEELING BURNED OUT?! Maybe you need better work life balance.

What is work life balance: having a work life balance means that you maintain a harmonious relationship between your work and personal life. This balance is different for each person and shifts at different stages of life. When this is out balance in either direction, it can cause emotional physical and financials concerns.

Benefits of work life balance:

  • Reduced stress

  • More productivity

  • More JOY in your work and personal life

  • Increased satisfaction

  • Improved sleep

  • Improved focus and efficiency

  • Better relationships outside of work

How to get there…? Read on-

Entrepreneurs like us decide to venture out on our own for many different reasons. Some of the common reasons I hear from my clients are that they want more flexibility in their schedules, the opportunity to make more money, the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, pursue passions and utilize their gifts. But then reality sets in and often we are inundated with tasks that we never imagined. We end up spending more and more hours pouring into our business and the lines between work life and home life become blurry. Here are some tips that I have used to help navigate the work life balance:

  1. Set “working hours” of course we are never really OFF work, but keeping working hours as a guide does help. For myself, I plan my work hours within my kid’s school schedule, but your hours can be whatever you want (perks of business ownership!)

  2. Turn off email notifications from your phone- it is too tempting to check email every time we get a “ding” so its best to remove the temptation and wait until the next day.

  3. Time block your working hours- there are many ways to do this that fit your business, you can download an app to help but I just set up calendar events in my google calendar to set aside time to check email, focused work, marketing, client meetings and training.

  4. Schedule a lunch break- I know its tempting to work work work but employees get lunch breaks because its a great way to recharge your energy, you deserve that time too.

  5. If you still find yourself at the end of the day wondering what the heck you accomplished and how the day passed by without anything to show for it, I highly recommend a periodic “time audit” to see how you spend your time so that you can identify time wasters during work hours, eliminate those and become as efficient as possible during work hours and be able to unplug during off-work hours.

TLDR

  • Set work hours

  • Turn off phone notifications

  • Time block the day

  • Schedule a lunch break

  • Time Audit
